First and Second Flush Teas

Tea production starts in March after closure from December to February. Teas produced during March – April have the best aroma and carry a heavy premium. Almost all First Flush teas are exported, and very little quantity is left in India. Teas grown in May-June are called Second Flush, and are reasonably close to the First Flush. Subsequent production during July – November during the Monsoon and Autumn is considered relatively inferior in quality.
